i was really pleasantly surprised by the lamb though! there's been meat providers there in the past, and they usually sell frozen stuff ('cos their farms are a fair distance away). they usually also sell organic.

i like organic food, but sometimes it's not as good as non-organic. especially meat.

this guy? had a FRIDGE TRUCK so it's fresh, fresh, fresh. and the box is perfect for 1-2 people (it had 1/2 a leg roast, 1 shank, 4 chops, 4 steaks, 1/2 standing rib roast, 4 cutlets etc.) for $35AUD. that's what? Around $20USD?

Awesome.

He said he's going to be there every 2 weeks :P

Hahah! I'm the other way around with organic food. I don't care so much for veggies, but I'd pick organic meat over the other one. Well, I'd pick meat from free ranged animals over other types. Might have something to do with the chewy ayam kampung I'm used to.

And wow, that's a pretty sweet deal for that much meat. It looks like you hit a jackpot with the fresh meat-good price-cute seller combo. ;) Too bad they're not there every week. lol!

ahhh see here, organic =/ free range. you can have free range without it being organic (actually, free range is much harder to have organic because organic you need to control what the animal eats!!! very hard to control what a free range chicken eats)

im with you, i only buy free range chicken. but that's because of animal cruelty. it occurred to me that i only buy free range eggs for this purpose... my meat should be free range too! have you seen the size of chicken breasts in the supermarket??? poor chicken!!!!!!

but luckily all cows in australia are free range :P

we're really, really lucky here. our meat is really good quality and there's a HUGE range of fruit and vegetables. it's also easy to get HALAL meat. australia is very primary-industry focused so we're spoilt!!!

OK, yeah. I'd choose free range over organic meat. There's no standard for organic here. You can have 10% and still have it labeled as such, which is probably why the free range chicken meat at my store is also labeled as organic too. :/

And how I long for the day Sean's offered a job in Australia. It's so hard finding halal meat here. The only halal meat market around is also a shady looking deli and I have no idea the freshness of the meat. So I ended up going to a busier kosher market that's just a few blocks from my place. And since we're more concerned about the slaughtering method of the animal we eat, that works out fine.

Yes!! Come live here! :D You'd love it - especially Fremantle (WA, where I am) or Melbourne. The Indonesian community is huuuuuuuge.

A lot of my Indonesian friends eat kosher meat as well, but funnily enough my Jewish friends find it easier to get halal meat than kosher! :) Lots of restaurants around here use halal meat too, it's really good to see (especially near the mosques that have Indonesian services, funnily enough).

I'm surprised there's no standard for organic over there! They're so strict here, it's hard to get certified (e.g. one of the farmers can't label their produce "organic" because across the road is a flower farm and it's not organic). "I can't label my food organic, but it is. You'll just have to trust me." hahaha

Thanks! I have to admit I bought that detachable weaved basket solely for its quaint look when I carry it through my trips to the market. So vain, I know.

You know, I actually checked that community a while back and was tempted. But then again, what's mine gonna be: "12:34 pm - distracted by a 9 week old puppy while running." Heh.. Maybe when I'm out of town on vacation. ;)
